Wed. 22 Jun. - a day out in Atlanta

Starting with no set plan for the day, took a stroll randomly down the road.

After a few blocks there was some sort of film crew set up on a street corner, along with 4 of Atlanta Police Motor pool  ...

I was intrigued to see 2 of them reftro fitted with LED projector headlamps.

How different their skid lids are from what Hampshire Police use !  ... (and I love the badge) ...

We went to the visitor centre nearby, and found out that there was a guided tour on board a replica street car (named Phoenix). They booked us onto the 1 o'clock trip and we started to make our way to the departure point outside the Hilton in Baker Street.

Before the tour we had a light lunch at "a fast food place called "Chick-fil-A"

very good.

The Trolley sigtseeing Tour (Peachtree Trolley Company) was excellent. There was a driver, and a separate guide , Pam, giving a commentary.

It went all over Atlanta, many different districts. It took about 90 minutes and Pam was very informative. Very intersting and great value, even at $30 each

In case you didn't know, Atlanta is the birthplace of Coca-Cola. The place where it was first sold (from a soda fountain) is marked with a plaque...

Atlanta is still home of the Coca-Cola Co.'s head quarters.

Another Atlanta fact is that it was the home of Martin Luther King Junior.... and this is where he grew up ...

A few visitors loitering outside ...(no comment)

At the end of the tour we thanked the guide and driver and walked back towards the hotel via Cenenial Olympic Park, a legacy of Atlanta hosting the 1996 Olympic games.

Accross the road from the park is SkyView Atlanta ...

as there was hardly any queue we decided to give it a go.

It's like similar wheels that we've been on in the UK, with air conditioned gondolas and a pre-recorded commentary.

from there we made our way back to the Residence Inn, stopping off at Dunkin Donuts accross the road for qan espresso.

A good day out all in all. Weathers been sunny/cloudy quite warm at 33C.

Accoring to The Weather Channel on the TV, there;s hurricanes and sever thunderstorms predicted, but fortunately centred around the Chicago area, quite a bit north of us. We're not expecting any of that.
